Learning, Growing, and Living in Permanent Beta

This week’s readings and videos gave me a lot to think about, both in terms of my career and my personal growth. One of the biggest takeaways for me came from Reid Hoffman’s idea of living in “permanent beta.” I really liked the concept that we are never finished products, we are always learning, adapting, and improving. It helped me realize that I don’t need to wait until I feel “perfectly prepared” to move forward with my ideas. Instead, I can start small, keep learning, and use my network as a tool to grow. His reminder that our network is not just for opportunities, but also for sharing knowledge, skills, and resources, really resonated with me. It made me want to be more intentional about building and maintaining relationships that can help me succeed while I also contribute to others’ success.

Another key insight came from Guy Kawasaki’s advice to “do what you love and the money will follow.” I found this especially meaningful because sometimes it’s easy to chase money or security instead of passion. His words reminded me that fulfillment comes from doing something that truly excites you. While money is important, it should not be the only driver of what we choose to study or pursue in our careers. If we genuinely love what we’re doing, we are more likely to stay motivated, grow, and make a difference.

I was also touched by President Gordon B. Hinckley’s words to the students. His message felt very personal, encouraging us to stay strong, stay faithful, and live up to our potential. What stood out most was his reminder that ordinary people, not just geniuses, accomplish extraordinary things through faith, honesty, and hard work. That gave me confidence that even if I don’t have all the answers right now, I can still build something meaningful with persistence and trust in God.

Overall, this week inspired me to keep learning, to build on my strengths, and to focus on doing meaningful work that aligns with my values. I’m excited to keep discovering how to apply these principles not only to business but also to life.
