 September 27, 2025 Creating a Life of Meaning This week’s study of Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture was both inspiring and humbling. I believe one of the primary reasons Randy Pausch was able to achieve many of his childhood dreams was his unique combination of persistence, optimism, and creativity. He didn’t just stop when he encountered an obstacle; he looked for another way around it. He also emphasized the importance of “brick walls,” which exist not to keep us out, but to test how badly we want something. This mindset gave him the resilience to pursue his dreams with determination and joy, even when the path was not easy. When I was younger, I did not have dreams. I was living life one day at a time, doing what everyone else was doing, with no bigger goals besides finishing basic school and getting married. Learning, Growing, and Living in Permanent Beta

  This week’s readings and videos gave me a lot to think about, both in terms of my career and my personal growth. One of the biggest takeaways for me came from Reid Hoffman’s idea of living in “permanent beta.” I really liked the concept that we are never finished products, we are always learning, adapting, and improving. It helped me realize that I don’t need to wait until I feel “perfectly prepared” to move forward with my ideas. Instead, I can start small, keep learning, and use my network as a tool to grow. His reminder that our network is not just for opportunities, but also for sharing knowledge, skills, and resources, really resonated with me. It made me want to be more intentional about building and maintaining relationships that can help me succeed while I also contribute to others’ success.
