So You Want to Be an Entrepreneour?
This week really made me think about what it means to grow not just in school or business, but as a person. One thing that stood out to me was Jan Newman’s talk, “Loyalty to God and Family.” He reminded us that no matter how busy or ambitious we get, we should never let our loyalty to God or our families get “crunched.” That really hit me because it is easy to let school, work, or hobbies take over, but the most important things in life are our faith and family. True success is not just about achieving goals; it is about keeping the right priorities.
President N. Eldon Tanner’s message on self-mastery also made a strong impression on me. He taught that the greatest victory we can ever achieve is to conquer ourselves. I have realized that self-discipline is often the toughest challenge. Whether it is managing my time, staying calm under stress, or keeping my priorities in order, mastering myself is what truly builds strength and character. I also take comfort in knowing that God is there to multiply my efforts and guide me along the way.
George Leonard’s book Mastery tied all of this together for me. Leonard emphasizes that “mastery requires discipline and consistency, but also experimentation and boldness,” and that growth happens when we step just beyond what feels comfortable. At the same time, reckless risks do not help. I want to challenge myself in ways that stretch my abilities while staying aware of my limits. Leonard also reminds us that “small, smart risks expand your capacity without destroying your foundation” and that true growth happens at the edge, where challenge meets skill. Curiosity, courage, and consistency make the journey meaningful.
This week reminded me that personal growth is not only about success in school or work, it is about developing self-mastery, faith, and balance. By pushing myself thoughtfully, staying disciplined, and keeping my priorities straight, I hope to grow into a person who is not only capable in my studies and career but also faithful, responsible, and prepared for the challenges ahead.
