W09 Disciple Leadership

This week’s study material really made me stop and think about what leadership actually looks like in everyday life. I went into it expecting business tips and came out feeling like I had been taught something much deeper, something spiritual and personal.

Guy Kawasaki’s thoughts on trust really stuck with me. I’d never thought about trust as something I have to offer first, but the way he explained it made sense. It made me pause and ask myself: Do I wait for people to earn my trust, or am I willing to trust first? I also loved his “bakers vs. eaters” example. A baker sees the world as a place where you can always make more “pie” instead of fighting over one small one. It reminded me of something my husband always says, "There is plenty for everyone, and more." That abundance mindset really inspires me to believe there’s room for everyone to succeed.

Jim Ritchie’s message on “Achieving Higher Ground” honestly inspired me. The way he talked about leaders from history, both religious and not, made leadership feel more real and reachable. His definition that a true leader is someone who takes others to higher ground made me reflect on ways I can help others reach their potential. It reminded me that leadership isn’t about being in charge, it’s about lifting people.

President Kim B. Clark’s talk tied everything together perfectly. His three principles lead by example, lead with vision, and lead with love felt like such simple ideas, but the more I thought about them, the more powerful they felt. I especially loved the idea that the Savior leads with a “small L.” That kind of leadership is gentle, kind, and full of quiet strength. It made me reflect on the kind of example I’m setting in my own home and relationships.

Overall, this week reminded me that leadership isn’t about titles or positions. It’s about who I am becoming every day. I’m excited to keep learning and hopefully become the kind of leader who lifts others, trusts easily, and acts with purpose and love.
